Curraleigh West to Midleton Pipeline
Project Type: Completed
Location: Cork, Tipperary
Contact Details:

Bord Gáis Networks identified the need to construct a new pipeline in September 2006 to meet the increasing demand for natural gas in the Cork area. An infrastructural development programme to construct a new pipeline to twin the existing Cork-Dublin pipeline, between an Above Ground Installation (AGI) at Curraleigh West, situated to the west of the village of Ballyporeen, Co.Tipperary, and Midleton Compressor Station, Co. Cork was put in place. Planning approval, as required under Section 182 of the Planning and Development Act 2000, as amended, was granted in December 2008 and the construction contract was awarded to SICIM Roadbridge in January 2009.

Construction Programme

The pipeline was constructed using 610mm diameter high-grade steel pipe, buried to a minimum depth of 1.2 metres below ground level. The pipeline passes primarily through agricultural land. Pre-construction environmental and archaeology works commenced in February 2009 with the main construction activities having taken place between March and October 2009. Reinstatement works are scheduled for completion in 2010.

the pipeline construction was carried out by SICIM Roadbridge on behalf Bord Gáis Networks. The latest and least intrusive engineering methods were used and the pipeline was constructed using a “spread” technique.
