Connect your site to natural gas in 4 easy steps
Step1
Project Information to Bord Gáis
E-mail a completed Bord Gáis Connections Form and AutoCAD Drawings to plans@bge.ie.
Drawings should contain:
- Site location
- Site layout
- Proposed meter location(s), with number of meters at each location
- Proposed path of gas main and services
* Details of the basement and upper floors of the building are required if a meter or service is to be located within the building line.
Step 2
Locate Gas Mains
Call the Bord Gáis Network Maps Office : 1850 42 77 47 to locate natural gas mains in the area.
Before commencing ground works on site, check for the location of gas mains. Refer to the Safety Document in the Technical Manual for procedures in locating gas networks. In the case where the safety of the gas main or service has been compromised, call our 24 hour Emergency Line: 1850 20 50 50.
Step 3
Design For Safety
The gas installation after the meter must be designed and constructed to the current Irish Standards and Manufacturer's Instructions.
- Domestic Premises Standard: I.S.813 "Domestic Gas Installations"
- Commercial Premises Standard: I.S.820 "Non Domestic Gas Installations"
You can order your copy of the Irish Standards at www.standards.ie. In the interests of your safety, ensure to employ a Registered Gas Installer, in conformance with the relevant Irish Installation Standards (I.S. 813 or I.S. 820).
Step 4
Arranging for the Meter
Before requesting the Meter, ensure you consider the checklist below.
Check-List for the Heating Installer on New Build Residential Estates:
This check-list has been compiled to help ensure that gas meters are fitted on the first visit to your site, this list does not indicate full adherence to current Irish Gas Standards: I.S.813 "Domestic Gas Installations" or I.S.820 "Non-Domestic Gas Installations".
If any of the below are not completed or the installation is found not to comply with Irish Gas Standards, the meter will not be fitted.
If the meter can not be fitted due to non-conformance with the Irish Gas Standards or Bord Gáis safety practices, another Declaration of Conformance is required after rectification of initial non-compliance.
- The Central Heating Boiler, and all other natural gas appliances, must be installed in permitted locations. - in accordance with Irish Gas Standards & Manufacturer’s Instructions.
- All appliance flues must be completed. - in accordance with Irish Gas Standards and Manufacturer’s Instructions.
- Flue / Flue Terminal clearances must be correct. - in accordance with Irish Gas Standards.
- A 3 Amp fused electric spur box or plug & socket must be fitted adjacent to boiler. - in accordance with E.T.C.I. Regulations.
- A permanent electric live must exist to boiler (when required). - in accordance with E.T.C.I. Regulations, Irish Gas Standards and per Manufacturers Instructions.
- Gas supply pipework must be completed to the meter position and pass the pressure soundness test. - in accordance with Irish Gas Standards.
- Buried gas supplies must be protected against corrosion. Mechanical fittings must not be positioned in any space inaccessible for future maintenance. - in accordance with Irish Gas Standards.
- All gas supplies must be sleeved and sealed through voids & cavity walls. - in accordance with Irish Gas Standards.
- A local customer isolation valve must be provided when the meter is remote from the premise, or, where a number of meters are located together. This isolation valve must be clearly accessible to the customer, be labeled indicating it’s purpose and show the “on / off” positions. - in accordance with Irish Gas Standards.
- Permanent ventilation must be provided for all gas appliances - in accordance with Irish Gas Standards and Manufacturer’s Instructions.
- Pre-Commissioning labels must be placed on all gas appliances - in accordance with Bord Gáis Networks meter fitting procedure.
- The "Yellow Copy" of the Declaration of Conformance must be completed and left available for collection by Bord Gáis Meter Fitter. - in accordance with Bord Gáis Networks meter fitting procedure.
Before the heating installer introduces natural gas to the dwelling a pressure test must be carried out once again.
