Gas Point Registration Operator (GPRO)
The Gas Point Registration Operator (GPRO) is the administrative service that has been established to support the newly competitive natural gas market and market opening process. BGN operate the GPRO function on behalf of Gaslink. (www.gaslink.ie)
The GPRO manages the register of all gas points across the country on behalf of all shippers and suppliers. The Gas Point Register (GPR) records the details of each unique gas point around the country. A central meter registration system is essential in an open market in order to assign a Shipper/Supplier to each metering gas point. This ensures that each supplier can be billed for the energy consumed by their customers and ensures that Transmission and Distribution use of system charges can be calculated for the metering points for which each supplier is responsible.
The GPRO is also responsible for the Change of Shipper (CoS) process, which enables natural gas customers to efficiently change from one natural gas supplier to another. The Change of Shipper process involves the transfer of responsibility from one supplier to another, for the gas consumption through a specific metering point.
The GPRO is part of Bord Gáis Transportation but works on an independent basis and treats all shippers and suppliers in an equal fair and non-discriminatory manner.
