Bord Gáis Energy Celebrates its One Million Customers by Launching the Community Energy Fund
Wednesday, 5th May 2010: Today, Bord Gáis Energy, Ireland’s fastest growing energy company has one million customers. To mark the occasion, Bord Gáis Energy wants to share its success with its 350,000 electricity and 650,000 gas customers and their communities in every town, city and county through the Community Energy Fund. As Ireland’s leading dual-fuel provider, Bord Gáis Energy is looking for local, regional and national Not-For-Profit projects to apply for energy funding from the Community Energy Fund. €100,000 in energy grants will be made available, there will be one grant of €25,000, five of €10,000 and ten of €2,500 worth of energy awarded to successful applicants of the Community Energy Fund. 16 Not-For-Profit projects in total from all across the country will be energised by Bord Gáis Energy.
For the past 33 years, Bord Gáis Energy is proud to play a part in providing energy to support the daily lives of Irish people in their homes, in their communities and in their workplaces and wants to hear people's stories of how their project will be energised to reach its potential and be enhanced by receiving funding from the Community Energy Fund.
Since 1976, Bord Gáis Energy has been synonymous with natural gas and was predominantly based around urban centres on the gas network. Bord Gáis Energy’s recent expansion into the electricity market has seen the company go beyond its original customer base, providing both gas and electricity to Irish businesses and homes in every city, town and county in the Republic of Ireland.
Speaking about reaching the milestone of one million customers, John Mullins, C.E.O. Bord Gáis, said; ‘We are grateful to all our customers, both gas and electricity, for being with Bord Gáis Energy. We wanted to share our success by giving something back to the very communities that support us, that is why we have established the Community Energy Fund. We want to recognise and energise local projects so they can continue delivering their services and doing the good work in their community by providing energy funding.’
Applications for the Community Energy Fund are available now from local Public Libraries nationwide and downloadable online from www.bordgaisenergy.ie. Applications close on Wednesday 16th June 2010.

The customer must have a copy of their current electricity bill, as Bord Gáis Energy needs the Meter Point Registration Number
Bord Gáis Energy will apply to register the customer as its customer with ESB Networks. The customer will receive their last bill from their previous supplier and becomes a Bord Gáis Energy customer.
